Pre and Post cruise stays in Cairns | Passenger Accommodation

Avoid travel stress and exhaustion with a pre and/or post-cruise stay at Pacific Hotel Cairns.

One of the only negatives about a holiday is the exhaustion that comes with the travel to and from your destination. Between early wake-ups, distant journeys, long stop-overs and time differences, you might be left feeling tired and out of action for the first few days of your break. This is the big benefit of pre-and post-cruise stays, you won't waste any time on your cruise and you'll take away all that travel stress...PLUS, you'll get to check out some of Tropical North Queensland's most beautiful landscapes before or after setting sail!

If you're planning a cruise stay in Cairns, you can find port information and the full cruiseliner schedule over at Ports North.

For those staying with us before or after your cruise, we've compiled the perfect itinerary for your time in the city:

RELAX WITH A BEACH DAY IN THE CITY

Just two minutes away from the hotel, you'll find the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, the perfect spot for relaxing in the tropical sun. The popular swimming facility on the Esplanade offers safe swimming year-round, with no nasty stingers or crocs to worry about! Whether you're taking the kids for a day of fun or you're relaxing on the beach, the perfect day in the city awaits, with sandy shores, fresh saltwater, green gyms, playgrounds, beautiful tropical gardens and so much more.

GO SHOPPING

From fresh tropical markets to small boutique clothing stores, there's a bit of everything in the Cairns shopping scene. Rusty's Market is a must-attend for any visitor, it's jam-packed with seasonal fresh produce along with handmade local jewellery, arts and crafts and pottery! Even if you aren't buying, there are plenty of small boutiques that are really interesting to stroll around and check out the Queensland-inspired fashion. For more info on local shops and markets, visit here.

SEE QUEENSLAND WILDLIFE IN THE CITY

Tropical North Queensland is home to some incredible wildlife, with animals like cassowaries, platypuses, saltwater crocs, turtles and so much more! Unfortunately, not everyone that visits the region will get the opportunity to spot all these amazing critters. If you're here for a short stay, we'd recommend visiting The Cairns Aquarium or The Cairns ZOOM and Wildlife Dome, for some exciting animal encounters right at your doorstep.

VISIT MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

If you're interested in the histories of Tropical North Queensland along with local and historical art, there are plenty of galleries and museums located a short walk from the hotel! Below is a list of nearby spots that cover most tastes and artistic interests:

VISIT THE RAINFORESTS OR GREAT BARRIER REEF

If you're staying for a few days before or after your cruise, then planning a day out to the Great Barrier Reef and/or the surrounding rainforests is a must! These iconic Tropical North Queensland environments present some of the most unique and beautiful scenery in the world.

The Great Barrier Reef

There are two main types of Great Barrier Reef tours, either a pontoon experience or a reef day trip. A trip out to a pontoon presents a more relaxing time on the reef and is much better for less experienced swimmers, snorkelers and divers. Depending on which pontoon you book, there are a range of activities available, from beginner scuba diving lessons to glass bottom boat excursions! On the other hand, a reef day trip is a good option for the more experienced swimmers and divers. You'll get to explore more remote and vibrant coral formations on the outer reef, with these tours usually taking you to multiple different spots where you can snorkel or dive from the boat.

Cairns Rainforests

Because there are so many beautiful forests and natural landscapes to explore just a stone's throw away from Cairns, it can be hard to decide on where to actually visit - particularly when you're only visiting for a limited amount of time. If you are here on a pre-or post-cruise stay, we'd recommend leaving a day dedicated for one of the following day trips:

Daintree Rainforest:

The oldest rainforest in the world and the largest in Australia, the Daintree offers incredible ancient scenery, with a range of unique wildlife to see! Booking a day trip is the best way to explore this rainforest and will take up a full day. You'll get to explore iconic sights like Mossman Gorge, see where the rainforest meets the ocean at Cape Tribulation and wander through 130 million-year-old scenery in the Daintree!

Kuranda

Similar to the Daintree, your best bet for exploring Kuranda is through a full-day tour, as there are so many different places to check out in the area. Hop on board the iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway, visit the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, tour the rainforest in an army duck vehicle, return to Cairns via the incredible 7.5km long Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and so much more in between!
